Arragon Mooar Burial Mound & Kerb (Santon)

Neolithic Archaeological Site MED Priority Arragon Mooar Burial Mound & Kerb (Santon) - Neolithic Archaeological Site on the Isle of Man
Bronze Age burial mound with a clearly visible stone KERB surrounding it — this is the type of feature that Victorian antiquarians mistakenly described as 'stone circles'. The kerb stones retained the mound material. When mounds erode over centuries, the kerb stones remain in place forming a circle of stones. WHY: This site demonstrates what many 'lost stone circles' on old IoM maps actually were — burial cairn kerbs. The mound itself contained Bronze Age cremation burials. The surrounding fields may contain additional mounds, flat graves, or associated features. The stone kerb is a beautiful example of Bronze Age craftsmanship.
