⚔️ Ashton's Redoubt (Castletown)

Civil War gun battery site above the car park near Castle Rushen. Part of the Derby family's fortification of Castletown during the English Civil War. The Royalist garrison maintained gun positions covering the approaches. WHY: Gun battery sites are excellent detecting locations — soldiers stationed for weeks/months at fixed positions drop items constantly. Musket balls, uniform buttons, coins, buckles, and personal items accumulate at military positions. The area between the redoubt and the castle was the garrison's daily route.
