Balladoole Viking Ship Burial

Famous Viking ship burial discovered 1946 — warrior buried in a boat with weapons, shield boss, riding equipment. The burial was placed OVER an earlier Christian lintel grave cemetery. The headland around Balladoole was clearly a high-status Viking site. The adjacent fields, especially towards Ronaldsway, likely contain the associated settlement.
