Ballakilpheric Standing Stone (Rushen)
Neolithic Archaeological Site MED Priority
Standing stone in Rushen parish, near the keeill site of Keeill Pherick (St Patrick's). The proximity of a standing stone to a keeill is significant — early Christians often built chapels near pre-existing pagan monuments, deliberately appropriating their sacred power. WHY: The combination of standing stone + keeill suggests this was a sacred landscape spanning millennia — prehistoric to Christian. The field around both features has double the potential. Ogham inscriptions were also found at a nearby Rushen keeill (Ballaqueeney), confirming Irish Celtic connections.
