Neolithic Archaeological Site MED Priority Bishopscourt Standing Stone & Flat Graves - Neolithic Archaeological Site on the Isle of Man
Standing stone near Bishopscourt (Bishop's residence) in Michael parish. The area around Bishopscourt has MULTIPLE prehistoric burials including Cottier's Field excavation. Archaeologists identified both mounded burials AND 'flat graves' (burials with no mound) in this landscape. The standing stone likely marks a flat grave location. WHY: This is a proven burial landscape β€” multiple prehistoric burials ALREADY FOUND. The standing stone is probably just one marker in a wider cemetery. The flat farmland here is prime detecting territory. The Bishopscourt connection adds medieval ecclesiastical material on top of the prehistoric layer.
