Calf of Man Keeill

Early Christian Keeill & Chapel MED Priority Calf of Man Keeill - Early Christian Keeill & Chapel on the Isle of Man
Early Christian chapel site on the uninhabited Calf of Man. The keeill, along with Viking-age and Bronze Age remains, shows the Calf was inhabited or regularly visited for millennia. Now a nature reserve β€” NO metal detecting permitted. WHY VISIT: The archaeology is visible on the ground surface. The boat trip to the Calf (from Port Erin or Port St Mary, summer only) is an adventure in itself. Seals, seabirds, and stunning scenery. Beachcombing the landing bay at low tide can produce pottery sherds and historical items washed from eroding coastal sites.
