One of the BEST-PRESERVED Neolithic chambered cairns in the British Isles (~3000 BC). Five burial chambers with forecourt portal stones. Cremated human remains and pottery found during excavation. Spectacular sea views toward the Lake District. Monument is Scheduled (NO detecting). WHY VISIT: World-class archaeology β€” 5,000 years old and remarkably intact. For detecting: the surrounding farmland was the Neolithic community's living space. With landowner permission, these fields have serious potential for flint tools and pottery.
