⚔️ Castle Rushen — Civil War Royalist HQ

Medieval Heritage Site MED Priority ⚔️ Castle Rushen — Civil War Royalist HQ - Medieval Heritage Site on the Isle of Man
One of the best-preserved medieval castles in Europe. Castle Rushen was the LAST Royalist stronghold in the entire British Civil War, held by Countess Charlotte (wife of the 7th Earl of Derby, who was captured at Worcester and executed). She surrendered only when the Manx militia under Illiam Dhone rose against her in 1651 and Cromwell's fleet arrived. The castle spans Norse to Victorian periods. WHY: While the castle itself is a museum (no detecting), the TOWN around it — Castletown — was IoM's capital from medieval times until 1869. The surrounding streets, gardens, and harbour foreshore contain Civil War military material (musket balls found), medieval market goods, Norse items, and centuries of capital-city activity. Try detecting any available green spaces or foreshore near the castle.
