Cloven Stones (Baldrine)
Neolithic Archaeological Site LOW Priority
Pair of Neolithic standing stones on the east coast near Baldrine. Originally part of a larger stone setting — most of the original monument has been lost to farming. Standing stones often mark significant points in the landscape: burial sites, territorial boundaries, or astronomical alignments. WHY DETECT HERE: Standing stone sites were gathering places for millennia — ceremonies, seasonal celebrations, later fair grounds. The fields around the stones have multi-period potential. Even the base of the stones themselves sometimes produces finds (placed as offerings).
