⛰️ Corrin's Hill / Tower of Refuge area (Douglas)

Multi-Period Archaeological Site MED Priority ⛰️ Corrin's Hill / Tower of Refuge area (Douglas) - Multi-Period Archaeological Site on the Isle of Man
The high ground behind Douglas — including Corrin's Hill and the elevated areas around Douglas Head — commanded views over the harbour and bay. These hilltop positions were used for defence, signal fires, and later Victorian recreation. The Tower of Refuge (1832) in the bay below was built by Sir William Hillary (RNLI founder). WHY: Douglas Head was a major Victorian promenade and entertainment area — thousands visited for the sea views. The hilltops above Douglas were also used during the Napoleonic Wars and both World Wars for coastal watching. Any elevated green space around Douglas Head that hasn't been built on is worth checking.
