Cronk Howe Mooar (Round Mound)

Neolithic Archaeological Site MED Priority Cronk Howe Mooar (Round Mound) - Neolithic Archaeological Site on the Isle of Man
Significant round mound (tumulus) documented in antiquarian records and on the 1860s OS maps. Round mounds on IoM date primarily from the Bronze Age (~2000-800 BC) and contained cremation or inhumation burials. Many have been ploughed flat but the soil retains the archaeological material. WHY: Surviving mounds prove the DENSITY of Bronze Age activity. For every mound still visible, several more have been flattened by farming. The ploughsoil around surviving mounds is highest priority — material from destroyed adjacent mounds collects in the wider landscape.
