Garff Viking Hoard Area
Metal Detecting & Treasure Hunting Site HIGH Priority
PROVEN VIKING HOARD SITE — the Garff Hoard was discovered as recently as 2016, proving that significant Viking treasure is STILL being found on IoM in the 21st century. Contents: 14 pieces of silver arm rings dating to the 10th century. Now in the Manx Museum. The Garff sheading covers the northeast of IoM including Laxey, Maughold, and Lonan — an area with rich Norse settlement history. WHY DETECT HERE: This hoard was found just 10 years ago. Let that sink in — in 2016, someone walked across a field in Garff and found 10th-century Viking silver. The exact location is kept confidential by Manx National Heritage to protect the site, but the broader Garff area (northeast IoM) is clearly productive. Fields near Laxey, between Laxey and Maughold, and in the Lonan area are all worth exploring.
