Glenfaba Fields (Massive Viking Hoard)

Metal Detecting & Treasure Hunting Site HIGH Priority Glenfaba Fields (Massive Viking Hoard) - Metal Detecting & Treasure Hunting Site on the Isle of Man
PROVEN MASSIVE VIKING HOARD SITE — the Glenfaba Hoard, discovered in 2003, is one of the LARGEST Viking hoards ever found on the Isle of Man. Contents: 464 SILVER COINS (minted in England, Ireland, Scandinavia, and Germany), 25 silver ingots, and a broken armlet. Dating to the early 11th century — the height of Viking power in the Irish Sea. The coins show IoM's connections across the entire Viking world. WHY DETECT HERE: 464 coins means this was a SUBSTANTIAL cache — probably a wealthy trader's or chieftain's savings. The Viking who buried this had access to coins from multiple countries. The surrounding Glenfaba sheading (administrative district) was clearly home to wealthy Norse settlers. Fields in the area are farmland — permission from local farmers is all you need. The original find was made with a metal detector, proving that these hoards are STILL being found by modern detectorists.
