⛰️ Greeba Mountain (1,384ft)

Multi-Period Archaeological Site MED Priority ⛰️ Greeba Mountain (1,384ft) - Multi-Period Archaeological Site on the Isle of Man
Central IoM peak with cairns on the summit. Greeba Mountain sits almost exactly in the middle of the island — visible from all directions. Its central position made it an ideal signal/beacon hill. A 'Greeba Castle' (now ruined) sits on its lower slopes. WHY: (1) Central hilltops are the most efficient signal points — a fire here communicates to the ENTIRE island, (2) The castle ruins indicate medieval/post-medieval importance, (3) Cairns on the summit suggest Bronze Age burial or marker activity, (4) The mountain's slopes have never been ploughed (too steep) — surface finds may include prehistoric material that hasn't been buried by agriculture.

What You Can Find Here
