Jurby Church
Viking & Norse Heritage Site MED Priority
Double opportunity: (1) Jurby Church has Norse cross fragments — Viking-era parish centre. (2) RAF Jurby was a WWII bomber station (1939-1963) — thousands of airmen stationed here for 24 years. The airfield is now largely abandoned farmland. WHY: WWII sites are massively productive for detecting — military cap badges, coins, buttons, dog tags, ammunition casings. Combined with Norse-era church finds and beach detecting at Jurby Head (shipwrecks). Three completely different finding opportunities in one area. This is IoM's best triple-threat detecting location.
