Early Christian Keeill & Chapel MED Priority Keeill Ballafreer (St Patrick's) - Early Christian Keeill & Chapel on the Isle of Man
Well-preserved keeill (15'3" x 8'10") in Marown parish, dedicated to St Patrick. Visible foundations in farmland near Ballafreer. One of the better-preserved examples listed by Marstrander in 1937. WHY: The keeill sits on a slight rise β€” typical of early Christian chapels which were deliberately built on elevated ground. Surrounding burial enclosure is traceable. Fields immediately around the keeill have been ploughed for centuries, bringing associated finds to the surface.
