Keeill Grenaby (Keeill Unjin)

Early Christian Keeill & Chapel MED Priority Keeill Grenaby (Keeill Unjin) - Early Christian Keeill & Chapel on the Isle of Man
Large keeill (21' x 12') in Malew near Grenaby with a pre-Norse cross found. Malew was a wealthy agricultural parish encompassing some of IoM's best farmland. The keeill sits between Castletown (medieval capital) and Rushen Abbey. WHY: The size of this keeill (one of the larger ones) and the pre-Norse cross indicate an important site. Its location on the route between the Abbey and the capital means continuous traffic. The Malew lowlands have deep, rich soil that preserves metal artefacts well.
