Keeill Knock a Doonee (Andreas)
Early Christian Keeill & Chapel HIGH PriorityKeeill (17' x 11') in Andreas parish with OGHAM INSCRIPTIONS found — proving Irish Celtic literacy at this site. The ogham script dates from the 4th-7th centuries. Knock a Doonee means 'Hill of the Fort', suggesting the keeill was built on or near a pre-existing fortification. WHY: Ogham inscriptions are RARE on IoM and prove direct Irish connections. Andreas is also IoM's Viking heartland — so this site represents the meeting of Irish Christian and Norse cultures. Fields around this keeill, in the heart of the Andreas Viking settlement, are among the most promising detecting locations on the island.
