Laxey Coast Wrecks

Historic Shipwreck & Dive Site MED Priority Laxey Coast Wrecks - Historic Shipwreck & Dive Site on the Isle of Man
Laxey was IoM's mining capital — the Great Laxey Mine produced lead, zinc, copper, and silver from the 13th to 19th centuries. A dedicated harbour was built to ship ore. Adrian Corkill (who documented 2,000+ IoM shipwrecks) started his 37-year career fishing on a wreck off Laxey — that wreck piqued his curiosity and launched decades of research. WHY DETECT HERE: The harbour area combines maritime and industrial history. Mining-era items (ore samples, tools, weights, tokens) plus standard maritime finds. The beach north and south of the harbour is accessible. The old tramway route (Manx Electric Railway runs along the coast) drops Victorian items too.
