Maughold Churchyard Cross Collection

Maughold churchyard contains the finest collection of early Christian and Norse carved crosses on the Isle of Man — over 40 cross-inscribed stones spanning 500-1100 AD. The church is dedicated to St Maughold, a legendary Irish pirate-turned-saint. WHY DETECT HERE: This was a major pilgrimage site for over 1,000 years. Pilgrims lost coins, badges, and personal items along the approach paths and in the churchyard.
