Peel Harbour & Castle Wrecks

Historic Shipwreck & Dive Site MED Priority
Peel harbour has been in use since the Viking era — it's IoM's most historic port. The castle on St Patrick's Isle guarded the harbour entrance. For centuries, fishing boats, trading vessels, and later pleasure craft used this harbour. The breakwater provides shore diving access (Fenella Beach), and the harbour itself has accumulated centuries of dropped items. WHY DETECT HERE: The harbour foreshore at low tide is incredibly productive. Combine harbour detecting with Fenella Beach. The area around the old fish market (where catches were sold for centuries) is highest priority. Also check the fields south of the castle — the Viking trading area extended well beyond the harbour itself.
