Mesolithic Hunter-Gatherer Site HIGH Priority
OLDEST KNOWN HUMAN ACTIVITY ON IOM (~6500 BC). Flint tools and Mesolithic camp found during airport construction. The raised beach platform here was prime coastal foraging territory. Adjacent fields NEVER systematically detected. 8,000+ years of human activity in this area β from Mesolithic hunters to Viking settlers to WWII airfield. The slightly elevated ground NE of the runway, where natural springs emerge, would have been a preferred campsite for millennia.
