Ronaldsway Neolithic Settlement

Neolithic Archaeological Site LOW Priority Ronaldsway Neolithic Settlement - Neolithic Archaeological Site on the Isle of Man
Gave its name to the 'Ronaldsway Culture' (c.2500 BC) — a distinctive Neolithic pottery tradition unique to IoM. The original settlement was discovered during airport construction and produced pottery, flint tools, stone axes, and human remains. The 'Ronaldsway Culture' is characterised by flat-bottomed, coarse pottery — found at multiple sites across IoM. WHY IT MATTERS: This site proves IoM had a distinct, sophisticated Neolithic culture that was connected to but different from mainland Britain and Ireland. The airport has destroyed the original site, but surrounding farmland (especially toward Derbyhaven and Ballasalla) has produced additional Ronaldsway-culture material over the years. Any field disturbance in this area has archaeological potential.
