SS Afton
Historic Shipwreck & Dive Site HIGH Priority
Steamer wreck lying in 25 metres off Santon Head on the SE coast. Engine and boilers are still intact, with the rest of the hull scattered across clean golden sand that reflects sunlight beautifully on clear days — creating spectacular diving conditions. Massive conger eels live in the wreckage, plus abundant fish life. Visibility regularly exceeds 15 metres. WHY DIVE HERE: Consistently rated as one of IoM's TOP wreck dives. The golden sand backdrop makes it visually stunning (unlike most murky UK wrecks). The intact engine block and boilers give excellent photographic opportunities. Deploy DSMB rather than return to shotline — the wreck is spread out. Best dived at slack water.
