St Kathren's Chapel (Old Map: now vanished)
Early Christian Keeill & Chapel MED PriorityVANISHED CHAPEL. Durham's 1595 map shows 'St Kathren's Chapel' as a 'conspicuous object' in the Rushen area, near Port St Mary. The chapel has 'completely disappeared since Durham's time.' A chapel prominent enough to appear on the first map of IoM but now completely gone — the stones were robbed for building material over the centuries. WHY: The site itself remains archaeologically significant. Chapel foundations may survive below the surface. Centuries of worship generated centuries of dropped items. The location — visible on a 430-year-old map but lost to modern knowledge — is a genuine archaeological mystery waiting to be rediscovered. Cross-reference the Durham map position with modern mapping to approximate the location.
