Civil War-era Gold and Crystal Ring

A gold and crystal Stuart-period mourning ring found in 2020 and declared Treasure in April 2021.

Also recorded as: Lee Morgan mourning ring; Stuart-period mourning ring

What the evidence supports

The initials beneath the crystal may be J (or I) and D. MNH notes a possible association with the Stanley family, but explicitly says the owner or person commemorated may never be established, so that association is not treated as fact. The source gives only the south of the Island and says the find location will remain secret; this record therefore publishes no geometry.

Location and precision

Location withheld. Exact find location explicitly withheld by MNH; the broad 'south of the Island' wording is not converted into a map area.

Why no public geometry is published: The source location is withheld from the deployable dataset.

Access is not implied

Find location confidential; consult MNH collection and display information rather than attempting to identify the site.

Legal note

On the Isle of Man, metal-detector use in a protected area requires written Manx National Heritage consent, and digging or excavation on any land to search for archaeological objects requires an MNH licence. Landowner permission alone is not enough.
