What the evidence supports
Darvill's 2010 chapter reports topographic and geophysical surveys in 1993–96 and 2002 and illustrates preliminary results from a GPR traverse. It interprets reflections as constructional features and a possible central structure. A later Round Mounds project account characterises the 1990s geophysical search for prehistoric use as unsuccessful, while IOMHER says a prehistoric burial origin remains speculative and unsupported. This record confirms that GPR was used; it does not endorse an anomaly interpretation, burial claim or treasure claim.
Location and precision
Approximate area · radius 120 m. Broad public Tynwald Hill context centred on the IOMHER monument position; no survey grid, traverse or anomaly coordinates are reconstructed.
Why this public geometry is safe: The public geometry is a broad project context, not the working grid, anomaly coordinates or permission to enter the site.
54.2037, -4.6424
Broad public Tynwald Hill context centred on the IOMHER monument position; no survey grid, traverse or anomaly coordinates are reconstructed.
Access is not implied
Survey-location context only; no access, repeat-survey or ground-disturbance permission is implied.
Legal note
On the Isle of Man, metal-detector use in a protected area requires written Manx National Heritage consent, and digging or excavation on any land to search for archaeological objects requires an MNH licence. Landowner permission alone is not enough.
